Srinagar, Aug 24 (KNO): The Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah on Monday rolled out a phased plan to upgrade 714 High Schools into full-fledged K-12 composite institutions. According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the decision was taken in a review meeting on Monday chaired by CM Omar Abdullah. K-12 education refers to the system of public and private primary and secondary schooling that spans from Kindergarten (K) through the 12th Grade (12). Taking to the microblogging site X, Office of Chief Minister, J&K posted, “Chief Minister chaired a review meeting of the School Education Department at Civil Secretariat, Srinagar.” It said that the meeting focused on improving the Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) at the higher secondary level. The meeting also reviewed the phased plan to upgrade 714 High Schools into K-12 composite schools, including requirements for teaching and non-teaching staff, infrastructure, laboratories and other essential facilities.” The Chief Minister’s Office said that the upgradation will ensure continuity in school education, expand access to Classes XI and XII. It also said that it will help in reducing the dropouts at the critical transition after Class 10, particularly in underserved areas—(KNO)
